What is quantity break pricing?

Quantity break pricing gives a lower unit price when a customer buys more of an item at once, with the price changing at set quantities called breaks. A typical schedule has a price for 1–9, a lower one for 10–49 and a lower one again for 50 or more.

How it works

Breaks can be set by the manufacturer on the distributor’s cost or by the distributor on its own prices, and they interact with case packs: breaks are often set at full-case quantities.

Quantity break pricing example

Hose clamps are $1.20 each up to 99 and $0.95 from 100. A customer about to order 90 asks what 100 would cost and decides the extra ten pay for themselves.
